OFFICEFIRST leaves former hotel in Berlin-Moabit rent-free to charity UNIONHILFSWERK

With the takeover of the majority shares in the “Optimum Evolution Property II Fund” by the US investment company Blackstone Group, a property consisting of three building sections at Gotzkowskystrasse 20-21 in Berlin-Moabit also changed hands.

Frankfurt-based OFFICEFIRST Real Estate, which acts as the exclusive asset management platform for Blackstone’s office properties in Germany, has now reached an agreement with UNIONHILFSWERK, an independent welfare organization based in Berlin, on the use of parts of the building ensemble. The non-profit Unionhilfswerk Soziale Dienste GmbH, which belongs to the sponsor, will be the user of the hotel belonging to the property and formerly operated under the name ADREMA. The transfer of the property is rent-free and will serve as refugee accommodation.

Holger Staudt, Head of Asset Management Berlin at OFFICEFIRST, explains: “The situation regarding available accommodation for refugees is very tense, especially in Berlin, due to the war in Ukraine. The former hotel with its 130 fully furnished rooms was predestined for quick and unbureaucratic help. So we didn’t have to think twice and decided to make the house available to UNIONHILFSWERK rent-free.”

Ulrike Hinrichs, Managing Director of the non-profit organization, explains: “We thank OFFICEFIRST for the successful cooperation and the opportunity to offer help to refugees in the former ADREMA Hotel on Gotzkowskystraße. 75 years ago, at the time of the founding of the Unionhilfswerk, committed men and women helped refugees in post-war Berlin. To this day, it is a special concern of ours to assist people who have lost their homes through flight.”

In perspective, OFFICEFIRST also aims to reposition the former hotel as an office building.
